Hear From the Experts: Dr. Alan Hocknell

Dr Alan Hocknell has over 25 years experience leading Research and Development teams in the golf equipment industry. During this time he has been responsible for advancements in measurement capability, computational technologies, product design methods and performance analysis which together have enabled major innovations in golf clubs and balls. He has worked with elite professional golfers and countless amateurs to focus advances in product performance down to the individual. Alan is currently the VP of Advanced Research and Innovation at Titleist, where he enjoys leading teams who are creating new golf knowledge and exploring new product designs, manufacturing methods and improved performance opportunities.

 

Alan grew up in England and has enjoyed playing golf since he was first given a half set of junior clubs by his Scottish grandmother, when aged 10. He attained a Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering from Imperial College, London and his PhD studies at Loughborough University focused on measurement and analysis of sports equipment during impact, including golf clubs and golf balls. Alan and family live in Carlsbad, CA and enjoy the Southern California outdoor lifestyle together.
