#8 at Scituate Country Club

It was perfect night for the TNT Men's Thursday Night Golf League; a beautiful Spring evening on the Massachusetts South Coast. My threesome started out on the par four 6th and in no time we were teed up on the uphill 126 yard 8th. James hit a sweet shot onto the elevated green which we could see and Billy came up just short and above the bunker to the left. There was a fair amount of wind coming right at as which is often the case on this exposed course. I chose my eight iron which once put my on Bob Serino's deck which is just past the green but tonight with the wind it seemed like the right club. All I wanted was a smooth crisp swing and a square clubface at impact. It always sounds so easy! This night in fact I would have just such a swing! I got lots of height on the swing and soon watched as my Titleist Velocity 22 hovered over the green, dropped, bounced once and disappeared! You can't see the actual hole on #8 as it's elevated just enough to guard the view but I certainly knew I'd be close and maybe win a skin! I walked up the slope to the green, saw James' ball and nothing else. As I approached the cup I noticed my friend Mark on the adjacent green for #2 and he watched as I retrieved my ball from the cup and hoisted it in celebration! After the round I walked back alone to the clubhouse from #5 savoring the moment on that gorgeous evening as the sun started to set and cast that beautiful golden hew on the course. I thought about my friend Bob Serino who'd passed away just a few weeks ago and how, since then I've always tipped my hat to Bob on #8. Walking up the drive to the clubhouse where I'd meet 33 golfers all looking to celebrate my hole in one with a drink, I ran into Mary Lou Bohn and close friend of ours who lives just down the street. She was coming in to play a few holes with Steven before it got too dark. I told her about my now very first hole in one and she said in her excitement, "I hope you were playing a Titleist?" Oh yes I was Mary Lou! Wouldn't play anything else!
