A Hawai'i Country Club moment!

Played a retro round at our home course with my club buddies David Hisashima, Mike Park, Colin Lau and Randy Ishikawa, on May 27, 2017. It was a beautiful cloudless day with crystal clear views of the Waianae Mountains to the west and Diamond head to the south. I was two stokes over on my second nine approaching the 14th. Little did I know that those two strokes would be erased by my shot on this down hill, Par 3 hole. Each of my playing partners teed off first. I went last hoping to get inside everyone's ball to collect the dollar riding on this short 3. I thought of Harvey Penick's retort - "take dead aim" and did just that. I took a 3/4 swing, heard that familiar "click" off the sweet spot and watched as the ball took flight. It was pure and spun like a magnet was pulling it directly at the pin. I heard someone say "its going in," as I muttered "be the right club!" We all watched as it looked to go straight into the hole - no bounce. But we could still see the ball. I felt a little let down and wondered as approached the pin, "how cruel would it be if my ball rested within inches, but did not go in." Fortunately as we got closer we realized the ball was half in the hole, with the pin stopping its complete plunge. We all grabbed our phones to record the event. As I approached to take my picture a gust of wind hit the flag and my ball disappeared into the hole. We all yelled and the next thought was "I'm glad I have my credit card!"
