Ace at the World's 7th Oldest Golf Club

It was a windy rainy day as it often is in Scotland. Balcomie Links is one of two fantastic seaside courses at the Crail Golfing Society Club in Crail, Scotland, not far from St. Andrews. It is the 7th Oldest Golf Club in the World and Balcomie Links was designed by Old Tom Morris, so this course is what traditional links golf is all about! We played the first 10 holes in a steady rain, but eventually the rain eased. Fortunately the wind never really let up and by the time we made it to the final few holes my playing partners and I were fairly dry. The sun even came out and was shining brightly when we tee'd off on the 16th, an uphill par 3 measuring 162 yards. We were playing into a two club wind and my Caddie suggested a 4 iron, I am glad I took his advice. It was a good swing but since it was an elevated green we could not see it from the tee. After everyone hit we walked to the green and started looking for our balls. I thought I had hit it on the green and rolled off the back, as that had happened often during this round. But after looking for almost five minutes we checked the cup and there it was, my Titleist Pro V1, laying at the bottom of the cup. It took 33 years and hundreds of rounds, but it was worth the wait because I am so pleased that it happened at Balcomie Links. It was a special golf day that truly made my trip to Scotland one that I'll never forget.
