ANOTHER ACE AT 72

I am delighted to report and unexpected HOLE-IN-ONE last Thursday. This is my second but the first was over 10 years ago. The odds of a hole in one for an amateur are anywhere from 12500/1 to 150000/1 depending on who you ask. I have not sent this sooner because we have just returned from celebrating. For those of you who are familiar with Troon North it was on the Pinnacle Course, hole number 8, which is a slight uphill par 3 for those of us that play the Copper Tees. I was playing with Warren Harris, who shot his age again, and Bobby Calabrese. As I walked up to the Tee Box I sensed more wind than down at the cart. I returned to the cart to get a longer club than I had initially selected. This proved to be extremely fortuitous. I hit first and my ball sailed just left of the pin. On this hole we can only see the top of the pin from our Tee Box. It did look good however. Warren hit his ball to the right of the pin. Unfortunately, Bobby’s ball landed in the bunker which guards the front of this green. We drove up to the green and as we exited we could see Warren’s ball to the right of the pin as expected. I looked for my ball to the left, as also expected, but there was nothing there. I immediately imagined the best so I walked up to the pin and looked in. There was my Prov1 black which I have been playing for several rounds. I reached in without delay and snatched the ball from the bottom of the cup and broke into my famous “Birdie Dance” which in this case was an eagle dance. Thanks to all of you who have already heard and offered congratulations.
