It was January 2nd 2004, a cool, crisp day, when I got a call from one of my regular golf buddies to join him for an "emergency" round of golf. We headed to the Player Course at The Woodlands CC. The 8th hole is a long, difficult par 3 protected with a pot bunker fronting the green, usually playing into the wind, green sloping away from the tee and you can't see much of the green's surface. While I've been playing golf for 40+ years I had never made a hole-in-one. However, on this cool, crisp winter day in Texas I struck a pure shot directly at the pin that was tucked directly behind the pot bunker and like so many good shots hit at par 3 pins before thought it might be close, but not go in. When we approached the green, 3 of the 4 balls were accounted for . I knew that I carried the bunker and when not seeing it on the green had assumed it went all the way over the green. After looking over the green, I was puzzled as to where my ball was when one of my playing partners went up to the hole and proclaimed. "Titleist 1?!" I must say a feeling of euphoria came over me. While I did not see the ball go in the hole, it was my first hole in one....finally! Fast forward to December 27th, 2004. Again a cool, crisp day in The Woodlands, TX, almost identical to January 2nd, when the same golf buddy called me again for an "emergency" round of golf. Again we headed to the Player Course. While walking off the 7th green, my buddy asked me. "Hey isn't this the same kind of day you made your hole in one?" To which I replied, "Yea, almost a year ago, wouldn't that be something if I made another one? While I'd like to say that again I hit a well struck shot, I didn't. It was a thinly hit 3 hybrid to a pin on the front left quadrant of the green. I didn't think it would make the green, but would be handy. Again, as in January the other 3 shots were accounted for . After looking short and left of the green, the same golf buddy who looked in the hole, went up to the hole and said: "Braun, will you come get your Titleist out of the hole?! Two hole in ones, same hole, almost identical type of winter day in The Woodlands, same approximate time, same golf buddy finding the ball in the hole.
