First ace of my life

On a cold March day, hitting into the wind, I swung a 714 AP1 5-iron toward a 135 yd pin placement on the par-3 11th hole at Ellis GC in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The ball took off high on a line left of the glag and began fading toward it. It landed on the green, bounced forward, then disappeared. Bill and Bob, my two playing partners, immediately said they thought it was in. I thought the ball had just settled near the hole beyond a ridge on the putting surface. As we walked up on the green and could see over the ridge, we saw only two balls on the fringe (and nothing near the pin). My heart started racing. Stepping up to the hole, I almost didn't want to look. But on peaking over the edge of it, the ProV1 was down there looking back up at me. I couldn't believe it. My eyes began watering. I've had Eagles, but in 45 years of playing golf this was my first Ace. After a brief celebration, it was on to the next tee. We had seven more holes to play, after all. We all finished the round with scores under 80, so it was a good day all around.
