This was a special day as it was my best friends sons bachelor party. Needless to say it was special. I have been playing golf since around 2001. I was introduced to the game by my brother in law Randy. He taught me several things about the game, which to this day I always reflect on when I need focus. When we play together, I always keep an eye on his swing and mood. His approach to the game is something I hold in high regard, and it's why I strive not only to play better, but to play it as close to a gentleman as possible. My father in law Jim was the primary reason I was able to ever come close to hitting a hole in 1.He has passed, but he still saw his handy work from above. His lessons of relaxing and enjoying the round and playing for the next good shot as well as just being around friends and family are what kept me close to the game, always striving to play better each time. He would always call me during the week to join him and his friends for a round. His tips and advice would pay off as my game would not only improve, but it would inspire me to really enjoy the game because I could now play good golf. As an athlete, to compete on the golf course meant a lot, and for some time I was a high handicap player. But through his teachings of not only the game but lessons in life, I became a better player all around-and person both on and off the course.
Today, I now play with his son Cary and good friend Brian. I was with Cary when he hit a hole in one 2 years ago. I think I screamed louder for him as if I hit it in. It was equaled on this day when I hit my hole in 1.Brian wasn't with us, but his son's Matt and Tim were. Everyone always dreams of hitting a hole in 1.
My perfect scenario would have been to have Jim with me, Cary, Randy and Brian and my father-the people I enjoy spending time with the most.
I have a favorite course I would have liked to hit it on.
But on this day-everything was perfect.
My father in law was with us all in spirit.
Randy's introduction to the game put me on the course.
My dad was on my heart always as he is going through cancer recovery.
I didn't have Brian there, but his 2 boys were present.
And Jim's son Cary, who now has become a brother of sorts to me- was beside me.
1 swing of an 8 iron, on the 2nd hole of the day= from 155 yards.
Nearly perfect all around and perfection everlasting when the ball vanished into the cup.
No person could have asked for a better day.
And it's one I will never forget and will always be grateful for, because of those that helped me achieve one of sports greatest moments-my first hole in 1.
