First Round of the Year

First Round of the Year

Its February in New York and a rare 58 degree day sent us out for our first round of the year. I dusted off my Titleist AP2 712s and bought a fresh box of ProV 1x's. Silver Lake golf course in New York was in surprisingly great shape considering the weather we've had. I was playing as one would expect their first round would go, working out the kinks. Shot a 41 on the front which is above average for me, but 4 pars and driving the ball okay I wasn't too upset. After a bogey on 10, we got to the par 3 11th. 137 yds over a lake with a very tough green. Pin was middle-left where the green really slopes off. Usually I hit a low sand wedge in but the wind was slightly in our face so I took out my Gap Wedge and hit a high draw. Mid flight I heard my friend say, "That's all over it." He then started saying, "One time! Go in!" The ball hit about 5 feet passed the hole and 3 feet to the right and spun back. It started following the slope toward the cup. It looked to me like it was passed the hole, but my friend kept yelling, "Get in the hole!" Then the ball disappeared. The first time I've ever been happy to see a ProV disappear off the tee. Very cool experience as we ran around the tee box yelling and saw groups around us clapping. It's certainly a swing I'll never forget.
