First Trip to Pinehurst
By John B On September 22, 2016
Having moved to North Carolina in early 2012 (about an hour north of Pinehurst) I was lamenting the fact that I had not yet made my way down to Pinehurst. Ken, a good friend of mine offered to take me as a guest to play Course #7. We teed off about 1:15 in the afternoon on a lovely day and thoroughly enjoyed our round, we both made the turn at +2. As we got to #13 I noticed a elevated green, we did see a front pin. I had the honor and hit a a 53 degree wedge (ProV1x) that looked to be just right of the pin. Since the green was elevated, and we couldn't see the green I thought "that ought to be ok". Ken hit his shot which was a bit of a mishit, we were concerned that he may have gone over. As we were making our way to the green I said to Ken, "that's what I love about elevated greens, its always a surprise when you get up there". We saw one ball on the green, I looked it was Ken's ProV1x, mine was nowhere in sight. I walked up to the hole and saw the mark in the green about 6" from the cup and the ball in the hole. I told Ken its in the hole and the next thing I knew I was getting a bear hug. It was a thrill for me to tour the Pinehurst clubhouse, see the Payne Stewart statue, and most of all getting a hole-in-one at Pinehurst. I owe it all to my buddy Ken.
