Fist Ace and in Competition

Fist Ace and in Competition

In his book, "An Educated Slice", Charles M. Schulz, the creator of Peanuts and Charlie Brown, wrote that he never made a hole in one and had decided to give up trying. After playing golf for 46 years, I had not given up but just never focused on the subject. On April 19, 2017, during the Southern California Golf Association (SCGA) Individual Net tournament at Goose Creek Golf Club in Mira Loma, California, that changed. After starting on the seventh hole for a shotgun start, I teed up my Titleist Pro V1x on the 169 yard par 3 ninth hole and mad e good stroke. The ball was on line with the flag, landed in front of it bounced, struck the flag stick then fell into the cup. Jose Camunas of Industry Hills G.C. said, "I think it went in the hole". Jim Anders a friend of mine who was on the SCGA Rules Committee came down from a hill behind the ninth tee and said, "It looks like it went in the cup". Jim and I have served on several Rules Committees in the past and also competed at Goose Creek in a SCGA 4 Ball event. When we all reached the green everyone stayed back, i walked up to the cup and looked in. Inside at the bottom of the cup was my Titleist Pro V1x #1 with the blue dot facing up. Jim made the announcement on the Committee radio, as I continued to play on the course other members of the SCGA Committee who i worked with in the past came up to congratulate me. It was worth the wait. Making my first Ace in competition with people who i know in golf. So it looks like I have one up on Mr. Schulz whose Peanuts comics with golf themes I still enjoy today!
