Friday the 13th
By PGooding On June 2, 2016
It was a sunny, slightly breezy day at Squirrel Run, Plymouth MA and my first golf outing of 2016. Along with my golf partner Linda Clifford, we are playing 18 holes and walking the course. As usual, my anxiety is high. I haven't had a lot of golfing experience and am feeling rusty as I hadn't played in 8 months. Plus the course is busy, hurry up and wait. I am trying to concentrate on all the tips Linda is providing while keeping pace. Linda is a superior, patient golfer who plays regularly and I'm always grateful to golf with her. Linda keeps the scorecard but most of the time I don't bother counting. It's now afternoon and shadows are being cast across the tree-lined, 89 yard, 12th hole. I teed off with a 7 iron on 12, and lost sight of my Pinnacle 1 ball as it arced through the shade and hit the green. I looked down to retrieve my tee and heard Linda yelling "hole-in-one"!! My immediate reaction was she was joking. I replied, "what? no way, you are kidding me, a squirrel ran off with it". She is laughing and says, "no really! Didn't you see it bounce and roll into the hole?". Unfortunately, I didn't see it but others on the course witnessed it. I walked to 12th cup and peered down and my Pinnacle 1 was there staring back at me. Linda said "well we ARE RECORDING THIS SCORE!" The Ranger came riding up short time later saying he heard there was a hole-in-one. It was the best Friday the 13th I can ever recall!
