Hole in one after playing for 31 years

Completely and totally random shot on the par three 11th at Cedar Ridge in East Lyme, Conn. Felt good coming off the club, kept my head down through the swing, looked up to see the ball at it's apex with a little bit of a draw on it and I thought, "It's short." Hadn't played Cedar Ridge in 20+ years and couldn't have told you the layout of the hole, let alone the area around the green. To the front right of the green is an ancient and mostly dead tree. The branches come into play if you come at the hole from the right side and would need to be carried (or have the ball go through the dead branches) in order to have a shot to kick off the little mound behind it to propel the ball onward towards the hole a good fifteen yards away. Turns out, it wasn't that short. Seeing the ball bounce twice, disappear behind the little mound and then rolling onto the green was a relief! But wait, it was headed pretty close to the pin... where'd my ball go? That was my reaction -- not "HOLY $#!%, ITS IN!!" but "where'd my ball go?" Both of my friends who I was playing with both said that thought it went in the hole. Always being the pessimist (especially when it comes to my golf game) I just assumed it rolled out of sight off the back of the green. As we got up to the green we easily find two out of three balls... don't see mine at all. I walk up to the cup, almost not wanting to look into it. When I get there and look in, there's my Titleist 2 staring back up at me. Couldn't believe it. I didn't jump around or yell, I was in too much of a bit of shock. Trust me, it affected the rest of my game. :-) I'll remember that shot and that hole the rest of my life, celebration or no.
