Left Work Early
By Jeremy L On July 26, 2012
I was working in the morning and my league golf partner called and asked me to play the back 9 early before we play the front in league. I had to decline because I was extremely busy. Then, everything fell apart on the job and I had to pull out and go home. It was early enough that I made the call to him and said I would play. We go off in a 5-some because there was nobody out there. At the 12th hole tee we decide to split up because another one of our league members showed up late and caught up to us. The 1st 3-some takes off. When I took the box I was thinking to play to the front side of green, pin being front right. In the air we all agreed it was right at the pin. I figured it would bounce short and roll up( ground was hard). The hole was actually out of view because of the slight hump in front. The next guy hits up and is on the same line, but felt he was short. I still can't remember seeing my partner hit his shot. When we start driving up I made the comment, joking that I can't get a hol-in-one because my wife doesn't even know I'm playing early. We laugh because neither of us thought it went in. Walking up to the green I started towards a ball that was on my approach line just on the front fringe. There is another ball maybe 10' to its left. So the guy that hit the same line goes to pull the pin and says," YOUR IN!!!" I could not breathe and just kind of bent over with my hands on my knees and stared at the ball sitting in the bottom of the cup. I picked up the ball, put it in my pocket and went to call my wife. She was as shocked as I was but not mad at all. It was the weirdest, exciting moment in my life. To do something like that and only be concerned how mad she would be that I was playing. What a woman!
