My third hole in one

My third hole in one

September 11 started somberly while watching the 10th anniversary events across our nation on TV. The afternoon was the couples club championship at Fox Ridge in Auburn ME and our small group of six set out together to compete. It was a beautiful day made even more special when we got to hole #13. One of the men in our group hit a shot that landed about 6 feet from the pin. I was very excited that my partner hit one 2 feet from the pin. I usually used my A wedge but the pin was further back and it was very windy so decided to use my pitching wedge. Initially thought I had hit my shot too short as it landed well above the hole but it rolled over a ridge and picked up speed all the way into the hole. All six of us screamed and it was very special to have all of them witness it.

On March 23, 2011, while playing at Audubon Golf Course in New Orleans with 3 special friends, I also hit a hole in one on hole #13 89 yards with a pitching wedge. The pin was smack in the middle of the green that was well protected by two bunkers leaving a very narrow entrance to the green. My ball hit about 10 feet in front of the green and my friends and I watched as it rolled right into the hole.

On Father's Day, June 2004, I was back at Fox Ridge playing with 3 good friends and it was an overcast day that turned to a slight drizzle as we came off the ninth hole. We all hit our balls off the 10th tee when it started to rain hard. We quickly took cover back in the club house. My 3 friends decided to call it a day but I to continue in the drizzle and told them I'd pick up their balls. I was having some fun by myself, playing two balls, trying different clubs. When I got to the 16th hole, I thought I'd try not teeing one up and used a 7 wood. The pin was back right. I set up on the right side of the tee box. I hit my shot and thought, that will be a good one and reached down to pick up my tee surprising myself that I hadnt used one and looked up just in time to see my ball role into the hole. I started screaming and looking around in hopes that someone else witnessed it, but the only group out there was well out of range. I stood there in amazement, almost not knowing what to do. I decided to hit another ball on a tee this time and it landed about 3 feet from the pin, and yes, I made the bird. I couldnt believe I had an ace and no one saw it. I'll always remember this first one.
