Near miss

Last June I achieved my first hole-in-one in our Summer Meeting on Gullane no1 course with a Titleist ProV1 for which I received a bag tag, certificate and a sleeve of ProV1s from Titleist. This was at the 4th hole which is 145 yds. I hit a 7 iron sweetly, just right of the front placed pin and holed. About 3 months later, playing the same hole with the same type of ball, pin position and off the same tee, I struck the same club, a 7 iron, on the same line. When we got up to the green, my ball was lying about six inches directly behind the hole. What odds would I have got had that been a hole-in-one?I had played golf for over 60 years without a hole-in-one and had played to County standard as a young man. At the age of 67, I still hold a 5 handicap. We have a 27 handicapper at our club who has had 12 holes-in-one!!
