One For My Brother

One For My Brother

It was April 8, 2017, my only grandson's 4th birthday, and although rain was in the forecast, we decided to play a round. The day was beautiful, but having my older brother, Stan, with me made it special. He was diagnosed with Terminal Frontotemporal Dementia this year and we only have a few more months to share our love of golf together. He LOVES the game but is quite a handful to "babysit" on the course as he needs constant care. We played with a few old friends at my club (Kings Country Club in Laton, CA) and we were having a blast when we stepped up to Number 17, a 119 yard par three. My brother remarked how sad it was the round was nearly over so I said I would make the day by knocking it in the hole for my first career hole-in-one! I called a high fade with my 8 iron and teed up my Titleist Pro V1x. The swing felt good and I said, "There it is". We all watched as the ball hopped once and dove in the hole! Stan yelled so loud the whole course must have heard him! We hollered, danced around, hugged and laughed together. You see, it was much, much more than a regular ol' routine hole-in-one after 47 years of attempts, it was the best memory I will ever have of that big Teddy Bear brother of mine (he's the big guy on the right) . My goal is to continue playing with Stan until he can no longer make it around the course, and who knows, maybe I'll be sharing HIS hole-in-one story soon!
