We were playing Pinehurst #9 hole 12 with Chris Sivier, the head professional Of #9 and #7. Prior to hitting a shot a discussion ensued about how he would love to send in that he saw a hole in one that was hit by a driver. Well lo and behold, when my turn came I used my driver, 165 yards,( I always use a driver for this distance). We watched the ball land short of the green and roll toward the pin. We heard it hit the pin and then Chris yelled, "It's down." Chris gave me a very nice bag tag with the Pinehurst logo and monogrammed with the date, course, and hole number. It also said 165 yards. No mention of hitting driver.
