During a chat with my mother, the topic of hole in ones arose. She asked if I had many. I answered with a gloomy face that I never had one in 43 years playing the game. She declared with joy that she had aced it 4 times. She also said that they all came after she was 50 years of age. (Her 80th birthday is this year 2012.)
I asked why it took her so long to get her first. The answer made perfect sense. She said, " I DIDN"T HIT THE BALL FAR ENOUGH " so she started using one more club on the par 3s.
My next round while on vacation in Ireland and playing with my son Patrick, I remembered her words and took one more club on the par 3 5th hole in Killerig Golf Club and too my surprise, it disappeared for a HOLE IN ONE. I had just turned 50.
And so I say, take one more club because, we've all heard it before, "NEVER UP NEVER IN.
