The One & Only

I was 13 and had kind of randomly decided I wanted to try golf. I searched my local trading post and found a set of old ladies Titleist irons, at the time that was the closet size clubs that would fit me and what I could afford. I started playing a local course called Smithfield downs in Smithfield VA. I fell in love with the game. I think being raised playing all kinds of sports helped me pick the game up pretty quickly. My dad decide to buy me some lessons that same year. At the very first lesson the teacher was showing me the basics of how to line up your shot. The old get in place to hit your shot, lay your club down against your tip toes and stand back and look where your aiming. It helped to say the least... dad picked me up from the lesson and wanted to play 18 at Smithfield downs. Shooting an okay round for a 13 year old we come to hole number 12 a short par 3.. I push my shot right, almost in this old pond that someone had pulled tons of golf balls out of and left for the taken I guess. I grabbed 10 or 15 balls and finish the par 3. After that last pushed shot I decided it was time to give another ball a chance I went with one I just picked up an old Ultra 2. We move on to hole number 13 another par 3, 179 yards. We wait for a foursome to get off the green, and I pull out my Titleist 5 iron (AGAIN I WAS ONLY 13 don't judge) I got lined up and set my club down at my feet to check my line, tweaked it a little, and then smacked a high dead straight 5 iron. ALL WE HEARD WAS A LOUD CLINK... I freaked, the guys on the next tee box freaked, and my dad thought I hit a tree... waiting for him to hit his shot felt like an eternity. we drive up, with hands covering my eyes I walk up to the hole and there she was my Ultra 2... The guys in front of us came over to congratulate me, only 2 of them actually saw the shot and said it was literally nothing but cup no bounce no nothing, and there was no divot to be found. I've never hit a different brand club since then, and have been hooked to this game ever since... however time has told that this shot was truly a one of a kind day with my dad and a one of a kind shot, and as I sit here 27 years old writing my story looking at the scorecard from that day and that old ultra 2 I'd be perfectly okay with that being the only one I ever hit.
