At Baker Evergreen course in Loretto, Minnesota, I was playing in a boy girl scramble that my high school golf team set up. It was a fun event for all high school golfers from Delano High School participating in it. Our group consisted of me, my golf buddy also on the boys golf team, and two high school girls golf players.
The first hole is a par three 163 yard, straight hole that plays very easy. We started off the round with a par on that first hole, thinking it was going to be a pretty normal round for a scramble. We were dead wrong. The second hole posed to be a much tougher hole than the first one. An executive golf course, there aren't many tough holes on Baker Evergreen Course. Hole two is a par three, 211 yard uphill hole that appears to be the most challenging hole on the course. I stepped up to the tee box to hit the first shot for our scramble team and I took my four wood, thinking I would need a pretty good shot to get it up to the green. After a practice swing, I was ready to hit the ball. I brought the club back slow and steady, and swung my arms around to hit the ball. It started out on its path to the right of the green and hooked back to the middle right at the pin. My titleist ball bounced twice and rolled about ten yards before descending into the hole.
"No way! Oh my God!" my friend and teammate yelled. He seemed more ecstatic than myself, because I was simply in shock that at the age of 18 years old, I already got a hole in one. After jumping up and down in celebration, I ran up hole two to see proof of what I just did. Sure enough, there sat my titleist three ball in the hole. I pulled it out with a great sense of accomplishment. Everyone in my group congratulated me and we proceeded to play in our boy girl scramble.
A one on the score card looked pretty nice and helped us out a lot. We started out the round 2 under after the first couple holes and we were in good shape to win the scramble. We went on to birdie one hole and bogey one hole and finish the round at 2 under. We did not, however, win the scramble (3 under was the score that won it) but we felt we had a much more interesting round than the others. You never know what can happen on the golf course. You can strike a hole in one when you least expect it.
