With 78 bunkers covering an area of over eight acres, there’s just no way to avoid the sand at Bethpage Black. At the PGA Championship this week, players will have to be sharp with their Vokey wedges. Escaping some of the very deep bunkers will require a magician’s touch, and an expert understanding of bounce, the key to using a sand wedge effectively.
To learn more about bounce and how the best players in the world use it to their advantage, we reached out to Titleist staff member Jack Druga, the PGA Professional at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club, host of last year’s U.S. Open. In the video above, Jack shares a simple training aid that was passed on to him by the legendary teacher Davis Love, Jr. Give Jack's tip a try and let us know if it helps you to feel and understand that bounce is your friend, especially in the sand.
