IMHO, it is absolutely necessary. In my case, my Daphne's Driver Cover happens to be a Koala and it hugs my Titleist Alignment Stick Cover.

The FootJoy Pure Touch is my go to. I like the Sta-Sof as well if I can't find the Pure Touch. I generally buy a couple Pure Touch at a time to stock up.
