I see Zach Johnson, Adam Scott and other Tour Titleist players use 9.5 degree driver as me, and then others use 8.5 degree but almost the same or the same shaft. What are the difference? I tried to hit a 8.5 degree but couldn't see or feel any difference really?

It's all about getting a precision fit that works best for their game and their individual swings. That is why the SureFIt Tour hosel system is so powerful.

I'm not sure of the exact details when it comes to the fittings for Zach, Adam and the others but I can tell you why I was fit into a 7.5* versus a different loft.

During my fitting, the fitter noticed I was putting a lot of spin on the ball with my current setup. So we tried a bunch of different combos - different lofts, different shafts, different SureFit Tour hosel settings in each.

Then we went to a 7.5* 913D3 with the Mitsubishi Diamana D+ White 72. This got my spin rate down to a really solid number.  Working with the fitter, we adjusted the SureFit Tour hosel to the C•3 setting which brings the loft up to 8.25* and the lie is .75* upright.

After a few shots, we checked out the numbers again on the launch monitor and bingo! This has been an amazing combo for me. Added a lot of distance and a much tighter shot dispersion.

Again, this is just my story and as you've probably heard (or read) many times here on the boards - getting a precision fit is really the best way to go. Not only do you end up with the best setup for your game, but you walk away with a lot of confidence knowing that your equipment is tuned for your game.

Can't wait for the season to start up again here in the Northeast!

    Very good explanation Mike!

Hopefully we can get the temps higher than a Club Champion's handicap up here in the Northeast.  Until then, we can look forward to indoor practice!

    Mike,

Really thank you for your answer, I will try to visit the fitter again and hit a 8.5. Might be interesting with the settings.

Great answer and good info to know.  I'm looking at the 8.5D3 and using my current ADDI7X.  Hopefully will get in to check my numbers during the next few weeks.
