  1. Had a fitting yesterday and am deciding between the 710 CBs and MP-52s.  I currently play DCI 962s and have a 10 handicap.  When I hit the ball flush, the CBs were the best irons I hit all-day and I was surprised by how forgiving they were on off-center hits too.  I also love the looks.  Sleek and simple like my 962s.

My only concern was that the size of the head (from heel to toe) seems small for my eye and I'm worried it's too much of a "step-up" for me.  Will I be able to handle the CBs in my longer irons?  Does a 10 handicap have any business playing the CBs?  (as a side-note, I tried the AP2s, but wasn't as crazy about those)

For shafts, I'm going with DGS300 SL either way.

    Hi Aaron,

I went through the same change and question a couple years ago ( at the time I was a 12 hcp)  I was playing the Titelist 704CB - which are similar to the 962s - and before that I was using the BB, so that in it self was a big change.  Anyhow, I have always wanted to play with blades.  So one sunday I was playing with a couple of golf friends and one of them had just bought a pair of blades.  That really suprised me, cause his a 14 - 15 hcp at best.  He seemed to play them very well compared to old clubs.  I asked to try a couple of clubs - 5, 4, 3 irons - and used them for "real" shots instead of using my own clubs.  They just felt fantastic and I too found them very foregiving.  Instantly, I was convinced that I could use blades.

I got fitted for Titleist 606's irons.  In the beginning I too was worried about the long irons, but kept on practicing and are fine now.  I also, quite naturally,  change my swing a bit, so I am now consistenly taking a divot.  My handicap drop fast from 12'ish to as low 5 ( iam back up to 7 now, because I change Golf club).  I still love them and actually I can 9 out 10 shots hit as long a 3 fairway wood with my 3 iron. Plus the 3 iron is fantastic of the tee on one of shorter par 4s.

All the best of luck with your choice and I hope you will enjoy them.

    Cheers

    aaron,

if you don't like the look of the clubs, then they may not be the clubs for you.  simple as that.  plus, i don't believe any of that baloney about having enough game to play certain clubs.  i'm a 15 and have recently switched back to blades.  and i've hit those more solid than i ever did with my old 762s.  at least you got properly fitted, but the club's looks are just as important as its performance.

btw, have you thought about leaving your 962 long irons in the bag and use the cb short irons?

    - fred
