It Just Doesn't Feel Right

  1. Last month, I went to a Titleist Fitting Centre and did an iron fitting.  My results were:

    90mph club speed
    108 ball speed
    19 degree launch
    4600 rpm spin
    175 carry
    200 total
    (6 iron)

The fitter recommended that I can to use my existing AP2's 710 set and I should change it to a standard length, 1 degree flat, with a DG R300 shaft

Based on the fitter's recommendation I decided to alter my AP2's 710 which was originally 1/2 inch long, standard lie with a DG S300 shaft despite not trying out the DG R300 shaft during the fitting because it wasn't available.

After using my new altered AP2's for over a month, the irons do not feel right!  I find it too light and at times and I find myself slowing down so I can control the club and as a result I noticed I'm losing some distance.

I know by changing my shafts from a DG S300 to a DG R300 the shafts are much lighter.

When I changed the shafts did I have alter the swingweights of the club too to compensate for the lighter shaft?

I don't know much about club fitting that is why I decided to go to the Titleist Fitting Centre to get  a recommendation but now after taking the advice from the fitter I feel my clubs just don't feel right.   Can something be done to alter the feel to make the club more heavier or did I have to change the swingweights of the club after switching shafts?

    Any advice would be helpful!

    Thanks

Jay, your launch numbers seem very perculiar. In fact, they don't make much sense to me. 6 irons shouldn't roll 25 yards. Nevertheless, lead tape is your most effective answer. The swingweight probably dropped a few points. Measure the current SW then apply tape until perhaps D4. Keep adding and measuring until your are satisfied.

The difference that you are feeling is probably not so much the change from an S300 to an R300 because that is only a couple of grams of weight difference.   The1/2" length difference will change the feel and the swingweight by 2-3 and that is probably what you are feeling.  You can put a lighterweight grip on it to add swingweight or as Ryan says - lead tape will add swingweight and overall weight.
