  1. Just ordered ap2 712`s, 4-9 from our titleist rep. Got fitted as follows:1degree up,1/2"longer shafts, swing weight D3 Want to order a set of titleist vokey wedges-52,56,60 Wandering if i should have the same custom specs as above for the wedges. Our pro says standard wedges are fine as these are not full swing clubs,we grip down more often than not and open the blade Have standard wedges from before and hit well with these. Another pro told me to order standard and go with a 1 degree up change after with standard length appreciate your views on this matter

We see most players matching the PW and GW to their iron set (length, shaft and lie) because they are full swing wedges.  It looks like you are going to have a 9 degree gap between your 9 iron (43° and your first wedge at 52°.  That is quite a difference and you may end up with a sizeable yardage gap.  I would talk to your fitter and see what he recommends.  On your sand and lob wedge, we do see players with slightly flatter lies. (which would be standard in your case), although they tend to match the lengths if they have overlength irons.

  3. Many thanks for replying Cathi. I said 4 to 9 for the ap2´s but should have said 4 to PW - sorry about that. The titleist rep could get me custom wedges for the new sm4´s (cc conforming) but not for the spin milled wedges. The higher spin on these is really excellent and i want to go for these.Stocks of these wedges are soon running out here in Norway (where i live). If i order now i can get the spin milled but only as standard. Do you think this would be ok for me or should i go for the sm4`s custom built. The only wedge i`ll be hitting full swing is the 52 degree. perhaps i could customize the spin milled wedges later although i dont want to get into swing weight problems.Vokey wedges are such precision instruments that i feel they should not be altered. As i said i love the control i get with the extra spin (legal for tournament amateurs until 2024) Hope to get my clubs before christmas !! Sorry if this sounds a bit vague but i need to decide-help appreciated greatly

Since the USGA will not allow us to build anything with the older grooves, the older SM2 wedges are going to be standard length and lie.  If your pro (who watches your game) says that you are fine playing the standard SM2's, that should be okay unless you want something longer.  The new SM4 wedges are spin milled and they will have more spin than the current SM3 CC wedges.  In fact, the tolerances are so tight that they are going to be very close to the USGA limits we will be inspecting each groove of every wedge that we build.  They will also have our new treatment across the grooves which will help preserve the grooves and micro edges so that they will maintain their spin and be more durable.  It's a tough choice.....

  5. Yes Cathi, a tough choice indeed. My fitter decided standard wedges would be just fine for me,perhaps a slightly longer gap wedge for a perfect fitting but 1 strong and a 1/2" longer on the irons is not that extreme so standard for the gap aught to be ok. I tend to change wedges more often than irons so i`ll go for the sm2`s now and perhaps sm4`s for my next wedges. When i saw bill haas`s amazing wedge shot at the fedex playoff with the ball halfway under water and ending up spinning back to the hole,i asked my self how did he get that spin. For this shot i would need all the spin i could get!! (is he a vokey man?). I thankyou for taking the time to reply to me and appreciate all that titleist do for their customers-pro`s and non pro`s alike. I look forward to getting my ap2 712`s and sm2 wedges round about christmas time. As a green keeper i get to try out many different clubs and titleist equipment, especially the wedges are the best i have ever tried!
