Help - I recently purchsed a 8.5 degree 910 D2 driver with a regular flex Kai'li shaft. After playing a few rounds with the driver I seem to be balloning the ball. Do you think for a 90-92 mph swing speed that I should have gotten a regular or stiff flex shaft? Or would something like the RIP regular flex bring my trajectory down? Any suggestions would help. Thanks for any input.

    brad,

the mft kai'li is a mid flex shaft which should provide a mid launch.  but with that combined with the d2 head may be why you're hitting the ball high, purely from an equipment perspective.  of course, there could be other things going on with the swing plane, path, ball position, etc.

the rip may bring the launch angle down a little.  you may want to test a stiff shaft as well since you're right on the cusp between reg and stiff.  stiff for tighter dispersion, reg for maybe a little more distance.  a heavier (70+ gram) shaft may also help bring the trajectory down.  you could also adjust the head down to as low as 7.75*

    good luck!

  3. It really depends on the shaft. You need to get fitted . There are a number of shafts that may work better for you but just looking at swing speed won't find what works best. Yout transition and tempo also play a big part in the fitting process.

Have you tried decreasing the loft on the driver and does it have any effect. Also given the loft you are playing and your quoted swing speed have you had anyone look at your swing mechanics? Track man would be the best option to understand what you need to fix. or change.Regards Chris T.

I would try a stiffer shaft for sure. It should help keep the ball down.

You are prolly right on the edge of needing a heavier Regular shaft or a stiff shaft.

An 8.5* D2 with a Kai'li R shouldn't cause too much "ballooning". Do you know what your launch angle is off hand? Even though some shafts are marked as regular flex shafts, doesn't necessarily mean that they're a "regular flex". Some R flexes play like some S flexes, S's like R's, and so on. Sure, a regular shaft with a stiffer tip should help lower your ball flight, BUT, you should always get properly fit for your clubs. Maybe you could take the club in to the place where you purchased it and see if they could put you on a launch moniter...perhaps try out other shafts, and find the right club/shaft/SureFit setting that's best for your game.

On a side note, I've fit quite a few people in to new 910 D2's and D3's, etc., and notice that some people tend to "scoop/flip" their hands up just before/into, impact, which causes them to have higher launch angles than normal.
