s400 vs x100 vs PX6.5 vs C-Taper X?

    I am sure this has been asked before but looking for some help. I am looking to upgrade from my old iron set (burner 2.0) that were in the stock 85 gram regular flex shafts. I have been to a couple fittings and I am consistently getting recommended the x100, PX6.5 and C-taper in X flex shafts. I am averaging 93-94 MPH in my 6 iron with mid to high tempo. I am also a 15 hc so not the greatest ball striker.

    I have a friend selling his lightly used set of 716 AP2, but they are have TI S400s in them. He's giving them to me at a very good price and that's the only reason why i am even considering these instead of buying new. Are the S400s going to be too far off than say an x100 where its going to dramatically affect my play? My gut is telling me no since I am a pretty high handicapper anyway and maybe the less stiffness will help me slow my swing down a bit. I also figure I would rather spend a few hundred bucks on these and use the savings for more lessons. Either way this is going to be much better than my 85gram regular stiff shafts that i currently play with.

    We have some similarities in our swings. I'm an 11 and a good ball striker (my problems lately aren't my ball striking), but I often do get too quick, but hope I can help a little.

    I have tried all of those shafts. My favorite is the C-Taper, but I did just get the C-Taper lite in X and love it--great shaft. I have the s400 in my 60 and 55 vokeys.

    I don't like the feel of the PX 6.5.

    You should try them for a round and see how you feel about them if you're getting a good enough deal to make sense... If you aren't getting much of a deal, then you may be better off with something else.

    Bottom line is that you don't want to end up with a set you aren't sure about. You will regret it, so be sure.

    Ah those c-tapers lites sound awesome. So I am getting those AP2 with S400 TI for an awesome price of $350 for the 4-P set. I think I am just going to get them knowing that I may have to spend a couple hundred bucks to get them reshafted (I assume I could get $200 resale for the TI shafts).

    I have the KBS Tour X in my 716s and LOVE them!
    I had 710 MB with Project X 6.5s before. Was fit at the Titleist national fitting centre in Toronto for the KBS.
    Give them a try or go to a fitting centre to see.

    My suggestion - purchase them from your friend. That shaft should be fine for you. Since the price is very good, you can play with them for several rounds....at least six 18 hole rounds. If you don't like that shaft, then seek professional assistance and have them re-shafted. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

    Holy smokes! You are playing an 85g regular flex shaft and are moving to a super heavy and stiff to X-stiff shaft? That's going to be such a difference as far as feel and should certainly help with your tempo.

    And I read your most recent post and you are getting your friends slightly used 716 AP2s for $350? That's a smoking deal and you won't find a better deal anywhere. Play with the S400's for a few rounds and then see if you need to re-shaft them. S400s are about 45-50 grams heavier than your old set and the stiffness is going to help lower the trajectory.

    There are a lot of pros that play S400 shafts, so I wouldn't say they are too far off from X100s. But again, you don't want a shaft that is too stiff because then you would lose distance and it would also have you work harder for every swing.

    Test them out first and really give them a try before spending more money on a different shaft.

    Let us know what you end up doing and how you like the set.

    Thanks for the replies. I did end up buying them last night and took them straight to the range and I can confirm it will take me some time to adjust to the weight and flex difference.

    First thing I noticed is that I was thinning a lot of shots. I think it had to do with the fact that I tried to keep my same fast tempo with the heavier shaft and it caused me to raise out of the pocket before I struck the ball if that makes sense. When i deliberately slowed down my tempo with a big pause at the top, i noticed I was striking them well.

    The other thing that I also noticed a loss in distance of about 1 club length (10-15 yards) but that was compared to the burner. I was getting closer to 150 carry for the pitching wedge and now they are going about 135 carry on my good shots. I don't see that as a concern since I really dont need much more distance on my irons, but also figure that once I fix my tempo and turn through the ball, I will get a much more piercing ball flight that should add come yardage back. I am still getting a pretty high ball flight with the S400s but I know its my swing and not the shaft.

    Based on the number you say you have a SS of an average tour pro so X100 would be fine.The S400 work best for me as I needed a little lower of a ball flight and get that with these over c tapers and X100
