    Hello all!

I was told that players should not be put into a x-stiff shaft unless their iron club head speed was over 100mph at my local golf store.  When I complete a shaft fit on true tempers website they suggest me to be in a x-stiff shaft.  My average club head speed with a 7 iron is 93-97 mph.  I carry my 7-iron about 175 -180 yards.  Any suggestions?

That sounds like an answer of someone who doesnt know anything. If you hit the ball straight and are happy with the ball flight with your irons why change to an X-flex? I play DG X-100's to try and lower my ball flight because I hit my irons very high. You will probably not lose more then a yard or to in distance but you will be more accurate with an x-flex(imo).

Seems like we have similiar swings speeds. I hit my 7-iron 178.

I play with x-100's and have for years.  I like them for the lower ball flight, firmer feel and tighter shot dispersion.

My advice. . . reshaft 1 of your irons or pick up a single iron on ebay with an X100 in it.

Thank you for the reply guys.  I hit my irons very high as well.  Tighter shot dispersion sounds very appealing!  I will try and find a demo of an x-stiff shaft at my local golf shop.

I recently tried a Graphite Design AD DI X-6 in my driver thinking it would straighten out my tee shots.  My last round, I hit one fairway and the ball flight was very inconsistent.  Not dogging on the shaft, but my clubhead speed is similar to yours and it just wasn't for me.  Have been playing this for about a month and am now patiently waiting for the 910 to come out - time for a change.  And time to go back to a basic "stiff."

    Hello all!

Just a little update.  Went and got fitted at another golf shop just for giggles.  Turns out I should be hitting an x-stiff shaft that is soft stepped(I think could have been hard stepped I forgot which way is a little softer and don't have my results in front of me!)   Next step is to go to a Titleist advanced fitter and see what irons and driver they recommend for me!  Getting closer to a purchase!  Thank you for all the help again everyone!

Where do you live John?   My name is Joe and I am a Titleist Regional Fitter in the Chicago area.

Data collection and side by side comparison is the best way to determine what is best for you.  Fitting is very individual and there are some windows to reference for shaft flex according to club head speed, but without testing it might not apply to your swing.

Let me know if I can help.

    Thanks,

    Joe B
