I had my second Titleist fitting over the weekend and have some new hardware on order. John Brown put me into a 50.08 F, 54.08 M, and a 58.12 D. I have never been fit for wedges before, and I'm glad that I did!
My current setup is with Cally in the same lofts and similar bounces. They were clubs that I picked up off the rack because they felt nice and were priced really well. They've served me well over the past few years, but it was time for an upgrade and Mr. Brown was coming to my course.
The biggest thing that struck me was the variety of shafts and grinds and how each flex and grind impacted turf interaction. There were a couple of shots in thick rough or sandy lies that I was struggling to hit cleanly, and all it took was step back to the tent to find what I needed. All this was accomplished while I was extremely under the weather - so much that I had considered calling in and forfeiting my spot. I let everyone know that this was either going to be my own version of MJ's "Flu Game" or an out of control dumpster fire. It was much closer the latter, with me struggling to find my low point and almost throwing in the towel due to low productivity. However, Mr. Brown is a true master of his craft and battled through with me.
I can't say enough good things about the fitting experiences or my fitter. If you haven't been fit and are looking for new or upgraded equipment, I can't emphasize enough the difference between guessing that what you've purchased is what you need and being confident that someone has put the right tools in your hands. I can't wait to open these up in the next week or two and see what I can do with them!
