Hey everyone,
Looking for some advice on filling a gap between my TSR3 Driver and Titleist U•505 3i Utility.
Driver data (recent Trackman session):
Club Speed: 118.1 mph (typically 110–116)
Ball Speed: 173.7 mph
Carry: 298.8 yds Total: 325.2 yds
Smash: 1.47
Spin: 2,450 rpm
Attack Angle: +2.1
Launch: 13.4°
Apex: 127 ft
Landing Angle: 41.9°
I don’t have the same data for my U•505, but on a 3/4 swing I’m carrying it about 225 yds, and on a full swing it’s typically 235–250+, especially when teed up. I mainly use it as a fairway finder, off the tee on shorter par 4s, or into par 5s. I currently have no club between the U•505 and my driver.
I’ve done two fittings with Titleist—one at a demo day and another one-on-one. Got mixed suggestions:
One fitter suggested building a 3W to help me draw it off the tee for certain shots (note: I play a natural cut and can’t draw the ball consistently). He said if I wasn't comfortable with that, he recommends a 3 wood keeps a low trajectory to compensate for wind and run out - basically another option off the tee. It would be a challenge to use on Par 3's but in reality am I really landing on softly in 2? No.
The other Titleist fitter suggested a 4/5W build, but honestly, the 5W didn’t add anything meaningful—it felt like overlap with the utility.
Has anyone been in the same situation—trying to gap between a utility 3i and driver?
What did you land on? Did a traditional 3W work?
Also curious: has anyone had success with a fairway wood built to draw, even if you typically can’t hit a draw?
Appreciate any insight!
