It has been a few years since my last fitting. But mine had done the same thing. They asked me what I prefer. It was a free Titleist 30 min fit. At the time that I was fit, I do believe that grip size was seen as more of a preference. The thoughts on that may have changed since then. I have not been to a fitter that would be able to keep shafts ready with different size grips to try and do not know if there are any that do. Unfortunately the only other way I would know to be able to try it, would be to regrip a club and try it out.

Good point in that sometimes fitters will focus on lie causing a left shot (for right handers) when maybe it’s as much overactive hands at impact. That said, grip size basic recommendations are based on hand size but using oversized or modern thicker lower tapered grips can impact shot shape. Most importantly, using grips that just feel comfortable in size and materials would always be the primary goal.

Grips, like balls, are easy to trial. One of our local retailers has multiple samples on short shafts to try for feel. If 1 or 2 feel better, then fit on 1 club to try. Fittings are focused on shaft and head options. Adding grip options is another level of complexity. A good experienced fitter can answer questions about your gamer grips and make suggestions, but most of us rarely change grips with changing clubs.

Most of us find a fit that feels good. With changing limitations, like arthritis in the hands, getting some recommendations are useful.

I'm an odd ball that I have GP MCC Plus 4 Standards on my Irons and Hybrids, but Mid-size on my Driver/3-Wood. I can't explain it, but the larger size on my Driver just feels better in my hands and boosts my confidence. I have a regrip station setup at home, so I kind of tinker with different grips a couple times through the season. I second that fact that at my last fitting, grip size was not discussed at all. I just told them what I wanted on my irons when ordered.

I currently use the Bryson Jumbo Grips. I got tired of getting smaller grips and just having tons of tape rap.

I do a lot of fittings and its always a good conversation for me to have with the golfer.

First ill ask what glove size they wear, and if they like it/feel comfortable with the grip size they play.

Just had a fitting yesterday where the golfer was striking it great but between all the shots he averaged somewhere around 5-7 degrees closed face. Path relatively neutral but could swing one at 2 degrees left or 4 degrees right. That is where I will not touch lie angle as the shot is not consistent enough for me to manipulate face at impact. He was in standard grips but I gave him midsize plus 4 and we talked about grip pressure and bam as simple as that he started hitting straight balls with square face.

Sometimes its more simple than we think but this game can make you crazy. He wore a L glove so I knew the convo was worth having.

It is my belief that standard size men's grips are too small for most golfers and an additional 1-2 layers of build up tape is beneficial - 1 additional layer of tape is 1/10" in additional diameter. Mid size grips with reduced taper at additional 2 wraps equivalent for the lower hand is a good step up for most (small hands excluded) golfers.

What you should use and what performs best? Big guy here and use the GolfPride Mid Size MCC +4. Was recommended to me years ago, tried them and have stayed with them. They feel good in the hands. Nice firm grip.
