I recently had an outdoor wedge fitting by a certified TItleist fitter. I had my iron fitting at the same place earlier and really liked it. I have been trying to find out what bounce I need on wedges. I was tired of buying wedges and then trying and then having to get new ones, so wanted a professional to look at my swing.
I was able to hit wedges off the grass and
also hit off a lie board to see how the sole was interacting. I there was a launch monitor outside so I could get the proper distance/loft gapping. Also, the
fitter said I was medium bounce, if anything more of a sweeper than a picker, but the lie board was pretty much down the middle in terms of bounce. Because it has been raining a lot, the ground was soft. He
recommended mid-bounce, and to go to a 54/58 configuration, which for Vokeys would be 54/11 and 58/8.
He recommended mid-bounce 54 and mid-bounce 58, since I play mainly in Northeast Ohio. They didn't have a 54/11, so I ended up purchasing 54/14 and 58/08.
My concern was that when I was doing the fitting, I was only hitting CG16s (I guess this was the only demo wedges they had). The standard bounce on CG16s is 54/14 and 58/12. However, the
standard bounce on Vokeys is 54/11 and 54/08. Since I wanted to get the
Vokeys (and liked the feel of them when demoing at other occasions), and these are the standard specs, this is what he recommended.
Since I was doing the sole/turf interaction with the CG16s, should I
have purchased the Vokey 58/12 instead of the 58/08? I see the 58/12
has a grind on it that will allow it to open up easily.
I am just second-guessing the bounce I purchased. I am, wondering if I
should've gone 54/11 & 58/8 instead of 54/14 & 58/08?
What do you guys think? I guess my main confusion is that mid-bounce for one company might be high-bounce for another company.
Thanks,
Jake
