  1. I recently had a fitting session with my club pro. It was an outdoor fitting session using the "Trackman" launch monitor. Hit numerous shafts in both the D2 and D3 heads. Ultimately, my pro recommended the 9.5 D3 with the project x shaft because the 9.5 in the D2 head was launching higher - by a couple of degrees - and spinning about 1000 rpm more. My pro did not have the 8.5 deg. D2 head. I was hitting the 9.5 D3 very well, and was extremely impressed with the club. Excellent launch numbers (launch at about 10 to 11.5 deg - I like a bit lower launch - spin rate under 3000 rpm), dispersion, carry, etc. Unfortunately, I did not see a great distance increase over my currently set up, which is a 9.5 deg. 907 D2 with a Proforce V2 73g stiff. But, I must admit that the D3 was certainly more consistent than my current driver (yes, I did do a side-by-side test). This brings me to my question: should I seek out the 8.5 degree D2 head to test? Am I likely to seen a discernable difference in numbers, most notably distance, as between the 9.5 deg D3 head and the 8.5 D.2 head? I loved the D3 head and actually ordered the club. But now I am second guessing myself and wondering if I could gain distance, without sacrificing accuracy, with the 8.5 deg D2. Thank you in advance.

Why would you expect a distance gain over the 907D2?

  3. Didn't mean to suggest that I expected a distance gain. I am just wondering if there is a potential for more distance as between the 9.5 D3 head and the 8.5 D2 head.

Do you really need the extra distance?  I just went for the 910 D3 (9.5) to replace my 909 D2 simply to gain accuracy & play more from the fairway.  I haven't received the D3 yet but imagine it may not be quite as long as my 909 D2 (as trackman showed) as I really smoked the 909 D2, but really liked the consistency of the 910 D3.  If you're anything like I am do yourself a favour & lay off the blogs/internet etc as you'll end up second guessing the club you were fit into.

Simply based on loft, there is more power used to propel the ball and less to cause spin with a lower loft. So simply based on loft the faster you swing the more likely you are to hit it farther with the lower loft, the slower then you need the more spin to keep the ball in the air.

If you were comparing a 8.5 D3 to a 9.5 D3, or D2 to D2, then you could base simply on loft, but you are comparing 8.5D2 to 9.5D3. Other clubhead characteristics come into play, mainly center of gravity.

I believe the D3 is designed to launch the ball lower and spin less than the D2 of the same loft.

I don't know for sure, but from what I have read, the D3 is designed for the swing that hits the 907D2.

  6. I should have added that recommended setting in the 9.5 D3 was C1. Thanks.

I also just demode the D.2 and the D.3 9.5 loft in the D.2 and 8.5 in the D.3 .  Tried the diamana ahina 72 gram and the project x 7c3 . The ahina with the 8.5 ball flight was really low , project x in the 8.5 was perfect but did not see any distance gain at all.  My personal opinion titlest offers alot of shaft options but only a few you and I can try. The only way to find a shaft the fits you is pay $150 or more to get the right shaft . Now with the price of the driver, fitting and custome shaft upgrade your looking at $ 700 TO $800 FOR THE DRIVER. MY OPINION TITLEIST SHOULD STOCK AT LEAST ONE DEALER WITH ALL THE SHAFT OPTIONS FOR EACH REPS AREA. YOU MAY WANT TO TRY A LIGHTER SHAFT TO GAIN SOME YARDAGE . 60 GRAM SHAFT MIGHT HELP PICK UP SOME CLUB HEAD SPEED
