Titelist AP1 IRONS Shaft weight a bit heavy

    I am in the market for a new set of irons and Titelist AP1 comes standard with fairly heavy steel shafts versus the competition. As an 11 handicap over 50 age, I still hit a 7 iron about 155-160 yards. If you look at Miz or TM steel shafts are lighter than the NS105. What options will you have for golfers that prefer the lighter steel shafts. I like the new AP1's but wonder after 13-14 holes the weight of the shafts may be a bit much..... Thoughts ? Thanks. Steve

    The NSPro 105T shafts weigh 110 in a Reg and 113 in a Stiff. Dynalite Gold XP shafts which are standard in our AP1 irons weigh 113 in a Reg and 117 in a Stiff.     I have a new set of the AP1s (712 version) and Cathi was very helpful on shafts for me. I hit a 7-iron about the same distance you reference and was seeking a light weight steel shaft. I would encourage you to try the NS Pro 950 Nippon) - 95 grams in regular flex. That is what I have and love it. They can also adjust the swingweight for you. Hope this helps.

    CW. Thanks much for your suggestion. I reviewed the lighter steel choices and two other options come to mind. NS pro 970 Nippon and NS pro 850 NIPPON, both of these have a lower spin and launch according to Titelist versus your 950 Nippon. Do you have challenges in the wind with your irons? I know we all do but is it truly apparent?? Titelist implies that the 950 Nippon is one of the highest spin and launch shafts available. I like the idea of something 90-95 grams. Many are in the 110+ range. My current irons TM are +1" and 2 degrees upright. I definately will go for a fitting before buying. Curious about launch and spin metrics. Spin is a killer when it comes to distance.
