Back when I had my 962DCI irons, I used the PW from the set for years. It was 48°, and it was good for 135 yards for me. A couple of years ago, I replaced the PW with a 48-06 Vokey spin milled because my PW had worn most of the groves away. However, I lost a lot of distance. I was hitting it maybe 120, which caused a big gap to my 9 iron's 145-150 yards. I'm guessing this was due to the extra spin. I ended up selling the 48-06.

Now, I have replaced my DCIs with 710MBs, and I'm looking at the SM4 46-08 or 48-06 because I really like the feel of my other Vokeys. The MB PW is 47°, and I hit it the same 135 yards as my old DCI even with more spin (my swing has improved). I don't have easy access to real wedge fitting, so I'm looking to Team Titleist for any experiences regarding distance changes with the SM4 wedges.

Note, my other Vokeys are 54° and 60° C-C wedges. I would rather have more gap than less because I'm pretty good at working the 54 and the 60 through the gaps.

I also tried the 48-06 with the intent of a common PW for all my iron sets. I played one round of golf with it but, for the most part, felt uncomfortable with it. 35 3/4" is way too long for a PW and the main problem was hitting it too chunky. I returned it to the store. I've had my 54-11 c-c for quite some time now (since the beginning of last year). I bent it to 55 since I have been playing with a 55* sand wedge for ages. I've become a whiz with it and it is my primary club off plush lies (I use it a lot for cut shots also). I've had a 50-08 c-c(bent to 51-09) that I have had since last summer and I can do all sorts of nifty things with it (long bunker shots? no problem). I'm pretty deadly with my 20-60 yard pitch shots using it. Between 2009 and the beginning of last year I played with a set of irons I constructed and it had a 47* PW and 55* SW. I got proficient at working the PW and the SW worked better than quite a few name-brand sand wedges. I was thinking about changing the 9 iron (45*) with an SM4 46* wedge but decided against it since I am pretty adept with the 9 between 60-120 yards. Not only that, I use the 9 for 30-40 yard bunker shots from soft sand. Between the Eye 2 9 iron and the Vokeys I have a pretty deadly game from 120 in.

Usually if you have a very fast SS the sm4 is recommended to help with distance control and if you have a slow SS the sets PW is recommended. At least that's what my pro told me.

Jacob, I've heard the same, and since I have a high SS, the SM4s are on my list. Have you seen whether the SM4s tend to carry more or less than a typical 47° PW? I'm leaning towards the 48° because that would keep my gaps at 6° for the wedges. However, if the SM4 spins more than the C-C, I may want to go with the 46° to keep the yardage gaps.

Then again, I guess I could just go with the 48 C-C and be done, but then I would be missing out on the new hotness. :)

Not sure about that I haven't hit the sm4 48 but I do have the 52 56 and 60 and I have to say I love them. But this is about the PW so I would suggest going to a golf smith or golf galaxy and hit the sm4 48 and the mb PW and just see which gets better numbers flight wise. The really best thing you could do is go to a titleist fitter but yeah. You could also get the 48 sm4 bent to a 47 to keep your gaps consistent.
