I just got my new AP1s and I'm not liking the feel of the shots I making with the irons. They feel harsh to me. I'm wondering if a change in shaft type would help. I feel like I'm hitting 2 x 4s. In my other irons, I play DG R300 and love the feel, but the dynalites feel lousy. Just wondering if its the head material that feels harsh or the shafts? I'm used to playing blades and also cavity back forged irons. Could cast material be the issue?

If you have any advice or have experienced any similar to me with your AP1s, please reply.

    Thanks!

I have AP1s with DG R300 and absolutely love them! I just got them and sold my Eye 2s. I had a set of DCI 981s with DG R300 Sensicore and they gave a new term to the meaning "buttery feel" I had TT Lite XL on a set of DIY irons and Eye 2s. You definitely get more feedback because the butt end is thinner and you feel the vibrations of the head. A well hit shot feels good. Not so well...."ugh!" DCIs are cast irons. Also, for the DIY irons, the 5 and 6 had DG R300 and they felt good.

Have you always played a tapered .355 shaft? This is my first experience with tapers. Have parallels in all other sets I own. Is the kick point different in DG r300s than with the xp r300s? I feel like there's a bit of a difference to me. I've also played with KBS pro 90 r shafts and I liked them as well. Trying to dial these new ap 1s in is going to be a bit of work I guess. I'm planning on going to an advanced fitter to see what I can do. Thanks for the reply! Chuck

My Eye 2s had tapered shafts and my old DIY irons had parallel shafts )both were TT Lite XL and the feel was similar, shaftwise. When I built the DIY irons, I had to trim the tips properly. With the tapered shafts, all one has to do is order a shaft specifically for a certain iron and cut the butt end to length. Kickpoint diff is nil. At Golfsmith's page, they show the XP shafts as high trajectory and super light. TT Lite XL is a mid trajectory shaft (it is also a heavier shaft); the factoid about it is that it gives a slight swingweight increase over DG because of the thinner butt end. I've tried KBS shafts alongside DG and both felt good. DG R300 Sensicore has a nice feel also (had a set of DCI 981s with them). I have DG High Launch on my AP1s and they hit fabulous.

Bottom line is you can never go wrong with Dynamic Gold R300. Even my old Lynx Black Cat irons had DG R300. Don't recall what my X31s had, but I think they were DG S300.
