I would definitely hit both outside. Worst case in a simulator. Both ap's are excellent clubs. I noticed that the ap1's are significntly heavier than any other iron i have swung. Out of the two  would try the 710 ap1 and and the 712 ap2. And if you find yourself struggling with consistency, try some of the burner irons. Good luck man. Hope you make the right decision.

The best thing to do is hit them outside and see what is best, both in feel of club and shot results.  When I did this my heart was set on the CB irons but I also tried the AP's and MB.  After an hour of hitting it was clear the MB's were the best fit for me.  In addition I found through the process that I need to order them 2 degrees upright.  Every 1 degree off leads to a potential 10 yards off side to side, not good.  So if your gonna spend the money, do it right and try them all out and see what your fitting results are.  Good luck!

Try the CB's before you buy the AP2's. I went to the fitter told him I wanted the AP2's and just wanted to get the proper length, loft, lie, and frequency of the shaft. I couldn't get the spin and the launch right, the stiff shaft launched too high and the x-stiff lost too much distance. The fitter said I should give the CB's a try, I'm also about a 16 handicap, with a stiff shaft and I hit them farther than the R9s and the AP1's I was playing at the time. I did end up getting the KBS Tour shafts, but with very lightly used heads so I still paid less than retail. I will wear these puppies out before I buy another set. I'll spend my money on Drivers and Putters cause my irons are right.
