I know handicap usually doesn't matter when choosing golf clubs, but I am looking to get some new irons soon and not sure what to get. I currently play the 712 CB's and I am looking for a bit more forgiveness. I've tried the AP's in the past but it was too much offset for me. Any advice will be appreciated.

I am not an expert with Titleist clubs yet but if the AP2's are not what your looking for maybe the AP1's if you are willing to part with forged irons. I will be willing to read other responses to your questions.

    Hi Phillip,

That's a great question and as you stated, handicap really doesn't play a major factor in your club selection, but it should play a part. Most can't play blades, but yet companies continue to make them and sell them to the general public.

The CB's are a great set of clubs, in regards to the off set of the AP line, which AP irons did you try, the AP2 or AP1?  I would highly recommend you get a custom combo set of irons where you have MB/CB in the lower irons, maybe 7-PW or even 6-PW, depending on how comfortable you feel with them. Then with the longer irons, get the AP2's or even AP1's. That's what a lot of pros do and ti's a great way to blend workablility with forgiveness.

I believe Zach Johnson plays AP2s, but has his 3 or 4 iron as an AP1 and Ben Curtis plays a set of AP1s.  So play whatever feels best to you and also gives you confidence at address.

Let us know what you end up getting and how you like them.

Are you mis-hitting the CBs?  IMy AP2s have very little offset compared to other popular manufacturers and I got used to it quickly.  I feel like the AP2 are nearly blades.  Go to a fitter and try all the APs...bet you find a setting to like.

First off thanks for all the feed back. I hit the CB's pretty solid but on the off days they can make me pay dearly! I think I will look into the AP2's.

    Phillip,

If you are looking for a little more forgiveness then the 712 CB, you would be looking at either the 712 AP1 or AP2.  The AP1 being more forgiving, but both models could be suitable for an 11 handicap.

Thanks Cameron! I was thinking the same thing. I tried the 712 AP1's but as stated they had too much offset. I was thinking of trying the AP2's. I may just wait until the 714's come out in November. Thanks for the input!
