I have been struggling with my putting for the past few years....have tried different putters as well as the oversize grips....tried out a Scotty GoLo 38" counter balance and started seeing the green and my putts totaly different....I have been useing a Newport 2 mid slant 32" and just cant be consistant. Do all 38" putters have a counter balance in the grip or just the Scotty's ? I'm a senior with a 10.5 HDC..... has anyone gone through the same thing and had success changing to a 38" putter?

I currently use a counterbalance putter.  It has really given more confidence.  I am also a senior (64).   The head is slightly larger and heavier,  another weighting is in the upper shaft, hence the counterbalance.

I've played the 38" Futura X counter balance all season and until this past weekend (!@#$%), I've been happy with my putting.  It could be better, but as a weekend warrior, finding time to practice is a struggle for me.  What I like about the counterbalance feature is that in spite of an occasional "outside" takeaway, the weighting seems to help me get the putter back on line through the ball.  It is also easier for me to release the putter and roll the ball down my intended line.  Great putter concept, I'd love to try the counterbalanced Newport.

    Marvin f,

I believe I have tried everything you can with the putter.  I did go to a counter weight putter with the daddy long legs grip, it worked for a short period of time for me, then the same issues came up again.  I then went to the super stroke grip which I still play today.  Initially, it mimicked the counter weight in my regular 34" png anser.  Putting improved again for a short period of time.

Started to notice that it was the initial change and how uncomfortable the new putter was that really improved my concentration and putting.  Once I got use to the new putter everything went downhill again.  So, I thought to myself what is the most uncomfortable putting stroke that I can think of?  I decided to switch to the crosshand style putting stroke and it worked like a charm.  It’s so awkward for me that I really have to pay extra attention when I putt.

As a 10hdcp your fundamentals would be solid, give the crosshand a try before you go out and buy a new putter.  Or buy the counterbalance and go crosshand.  Let me know how it works out for you.  Good luck!!
