I have been delayed in writing this post due to the tax deadline but on October 7 I was lucky enough to go to Manchester Lane to get fit for the 915 line. I had been there this past spring to get fit for irons and wedges and I was excited that I was able to work with Troy again. He is just a great guy and fantastic fitter.
After warming up a little I hit my current driver which is the SLDR 460 10.5 with a stiff Diamana Blue shaft. After Troy said he had what we needed we started trying the 915 D2 9.5 with various shafts. The first thing I noticed is the sound. You defiantly hear a pop at impact, but after 10 swings I barley noticed it. We worked the my same Diamana shaft, Rouge, and a few others when Troy had an idea. He put me the the Graphite Design DI 6 in stiff. After two swings we both knew. The ball speed increased and overall my spin numbers were down and the flight was right what he wanted. Piercing with either a baby cut or draw. Just for fun, we tried the D3 head and found that my numbers were just as good with that head, however when I missed it, I lost a lot more ball speed with the D3.
We then moved on to the fairway wood. I currently play a 17 deg cally X2 hot with a UST shaft. I mentioned to Troy that I feel like I hit my hybrid further than this club. Well it turns out that my spin numbers were approximately what Troy wanted to see in my 5 iron, so I was actually hitting my hybrid longer. We started with the 15 deg 915 f head and started with the same DI shaft in 80 grams. I was struggling to get the club head square so Troy said, I know the problem and hands me a different club to hit. It looked almost the same, but wth this set up I had no issue. Of the deck, no issue getting the 15 deg in the air and off the tee it was like I was hitting driver. So I asked what he gave me. Troy says it's the same shaft .5 inches shorter and tipped in the FD head.
Folks if you have the time, make a trip to Manchester Lane, it is top notch. Can not wait for my new clubs to arrive. Unfortunately I am off on a golf trip to Florida next week and I won't be able to take my new toys with me. The only bad thing about the day, knowing I would have to wait for the new clubs to ship next month.
Regards
Tony
