Club gapping between driver and 716 AP1 4-iron

    Just purchased 716 AP1's and I'm curious how people are gapping between their driver and longest iron (mine is the AP1 4-iron). I haven't carried a 3-wood for a few years since I'd rather sacrifice a little yardage for a much higher shot percentage using a strong hybrid. And I just snapped my 18 degree hybrid so I'm in the market again. I know I should go somewhere and let the stats talk, but I'm being a little lazy.

    After a little research I was thinking of buying the 915H 18* and turn it down to 17.25*, and then the 915HD 20.5* and play with the loft (19.75, 20.5, 21.25 or 22) to find the right gap. Any suggestions or advice would be great!

    Hey MH,

    Congratulations of your new set of AP1 irons. You will grow to real love the performance of these irons. Contrary to some so called expert opionions about game improvement type irons, they perform as well as AP2, CBs, MBs. I can work the ball just as easily. The added benefit of these clubs I have found is that they perform extremely well from the rough. I think my AP1 4 iron performs better than my 23 deg 816 H1 from the rough. I just went out this weekend and shot a 67 with my set of 716 AP1s this past weekend on a very difficult golf course here in Virginia that had US Open type rough. Just remember, it's the indian and not the arrow that will determine your score.

    I would like to suggest to you that you might want to consider taking a serious look at the 716 TMB 3 (or even 2) iron. This club is a beast. You could use it as a driving iron, a fairway club, or from the rough due to its' heavy sole weighting. The ball just rockets off the face with this club. Another benefit I believe is purchasing this club would save you a few dollars as compared with purchasing either a 3, or 5 metal wood or any hybrid. In my humble opinion, when you look at all the multiple options Titleist offers with their hybrids they do not compete on cost or performance with their T-MB, CBs, AP2s, or the AP1s long irons. Give this serious consideration and I believe you will come to the same conclusion.
