Hi TT - First post, longtime lurker. Thanks for an awesome forum BTW. Background info - I had been gaming 690.CB 3-P since they were new (still in awesome shape due to a few years of too much work and not enough golf, but with the 3 retired in favor of an 816 h1) but I came across a great deal on a T-MB 4&5 iron so I snapped them up to add into the bag. Before I could really get hitting them I also came across a set of shop worn 716 CB (3-P) at a killer $ and so I grabbed them as well. To my surprise, I smoke the the 4&5 out of the 716 CB set over the the T-MB's, when I thought it would be the inverse. I always had hit my 4&5 out of the 690.CB set well, but man I thought the T-MB 4&5 would be all over the 716 CB long irons. Possibly the compact heads are something I just get along better with? (they feel more solid as well but I expected that.) Question: Anyone else have a similar experience?

    Thanks TT!

OK, question rephrased. "smoke it" was vague so apologies. I am hitting the ball more consistently with the CB - basically equal distance, a higher ball flight with a little more draw and better contact. I am again very surprised (confused even) by the 4 & 5 in the set being even better for me than the T-MB, (which are also great) but as they say, the ball don't lie. TT Concierges or whomever: In your fitting experience do you come across people whose swing/setup/eye just seems to lend itself to a smaller club head and why on earth do you think that is? Is it perhaps because I'm a shallow divot guy and pick the ball? Anyway, thanks for making such awesome clubs. I guess I can sell the T-MB 4 & 5 and buy another Scotty ;)

Marc, I agree with you. I had always played the S-series from another company and my first set of titleist clubs were the 712 aps's. From there I upgraded two years later to the 714 ap2's. When the 716 ap2's came out I quickly upgraded once again. I hit them good, I just felt like I was missing something. I had never considered the cb's or mb's at all for some reason, self doubt I guess, seeing that most guys play the ap2's. I just recently hit the 716 CB's and HOLY COW!!!! They are permanently in my bag now! These are the best and softest feeling irons I have ever hit! I picked up a set 4-pw not getting the 3 iron yet because I wanted to try the TMB 3 iron thinking I would hit that better than the CB 3 iron. At the range the other day I hit my buddies TMB 3 iron. Well, I was hitting my CB 4 iron better (higher and farther) than the TMB 3 iron, and not by just a little bit. Granted my CB's have the AMT S300 shaft and the TMB has the original S300 (non AMT) shaft in it, so it was a little heavier. That may have been the difference in the two. Either way the CB's feel so good that I will be getting the CB 3 iron to feel that spot in my bag. Not sure if it makes any difference I am also a shallow divot guy.

Thanks Brad! Fwiw my T-MB do have the amt shafts so I'm not sure that was what drove your results. I think the CB's are just that good for the right type of swing. I am swapping out the amt's to my modus3 tour 120x (ss x1) and will put the amt's into my 690.cb's as a "b" set. Funny we have a similar story. A while back (2005 or so...) I was unhappy with the "g" series irons from another manufacturer and was changing things in my bag constantly trying to get the feel and performance that I wanted. One day I got so fed up I went to my fave local shop, threw my bag of mixed clubs onto the counter (one company's driver, another's fwy wood, another's irons, another's wedges and another's putter) and said "be right back". I had been eyeing that 690.cb set and they looked so pure. I went straight Titleist that day, driver on down to Scotty flatstick and the bag - and have never looked back. (Great day for that salesman). I love the bright chrome look of a player's cb and with the 716 going back to that finish, (along with all the subtle changes - and there are so many refinements) I felt something might finally kick my beloved 690.cb's out of the bag. The 716 is just such a beautiful club head. I think that look intimidates some people and it's a shame because the performance is astounding for me at least, and it's not like I'm a plus three or something. A side note to my Titleist switch was my resulting Scotty Cameron addiction. There should be 12 step meetings or something.
