  1. Hello all,

I have a question related to shaft tipping. I plan to order the 917D2 driver and 917F2 15 degree fairway. For both woods, I plan to put in the Project X Even Flow Blue shaft (65 for driver and 75 for fairway). I also plan to cut down and play both driver and fairway minus one inch from standard length. The driver would play at 44" and the fairway would play at 42".

Is it recommended to tip the fairway Even Flow Blue 75 shaft 0.5" or 1” (especially since I am decreasing overall club length)?

Project X Even Flow trimming instructions mention to tip the fairway 0.5" when played at 43" standard length.

Any input or advice is greatly appreciated! Thank you.

No unless you want the club to play stiffer than it's marked. Cutting from the butt won't do anything to the flex.

As far as i Know, tipping the shaft by 0.5 will make it play slightly firmer but no real change in launch angle and spin. If it is then tipped 1" it will play even firmer and then show a slight decrease in launch angle and spin. I have tipped a Tour Ad shaft by 1" in my 3wood and i don't find it to play much firmer but the launch angle is definitely lower then before which suits my game as i generally use it more off the tee then approach shots from the fairway

Every manufacturer is different but remember, cutting the tip will increase stiffness a touch. I've always butt trimmed to the playing length desired. I believe that is what Titleist recommends.
I know the Even Flow shafts are new on the market but I would also check with Titleist on whether they recommend it in their clubs. Hence why they do constant shaft testing.
    Just my two cents.
