  1. I've ordered a set of the new t200s and I only have one concern. While they look great I'm concerned about the back plate or muscle plate as they call it, being made of polymer or plastic. Do you the plate will damage easily? I'm not going to buy an expensive set of clubs just for them to get damaged easily. Thanks

I’m sure they have been testing this feature for some time now and can’t imagine that they would get any more dinged up than any other club. I will be getting the T200 also but just plan to be careful with them as best I can. My current 718 T-MB’s have a color coating around part of the irons that shows wear but I think that’s just part of the character that shows they are getting used. Unless they somehow break loose, which I can’t really believe will happen unless some bad epoxy made its way to the factory, I am not too worried and am looking forward to putting them to the test. Hope you enjoy many great future rounds with yours too.

    Dale V,
I switched from miz to Titleist 10 years ago and played almost every AP2 series. Recently purchased the 21 T100’s. Absolutely stunning in every aspect but distance. Wonderful clubs on the driving range but concentration needed on course is lacking.
I’m so mad at Titleist for not making a strong version of the AP2’s.
Cannot bring myself to buying the T200’s. This is my hobby am not a good golfer nor that bad.
    1. That muscle plate looks like a baby moon hub cap that will either ding up or come off. 2. The sound is a concern. Titleist guarantee for 2 years after that your caput.
The engineers meant well but apparently get free clubs every year. Oh and I waited 20 weeks for these 100’s with Nippon 950 shafts.

  4. Of course you would reply.

There is a Polymer core inside the cavity, underneath the plate that gives the T200 more spring off the thin face & polymer core.

I have the early version of the T200's & you can see on the back where that polymer core sits as they don't have the muscle back to cover it up. On mine they only have it on the longer irons 4-7 irons. Love my original T200's
    they really do play well.

I noticed the new T200's are the same loft as my old 716 AP1's. My T200's are 1 degree stronger than the new released

I believe the question is, will the new T200 backplate be durable? First, Jordin uses the term plastic. While plastic is a polymer, not all polymers are plastic. Titleist specifically uses the term polymer on these because the material, while not metal, is designed very differently from a thin, hard plastic. Will they be indestructible? Probably not but I expect they will be durable.

but great points about how good the internal technology is and how hard Titleist works to give us great products and then take the risk to make significant changes for the sake of improvement. Glad you are loving yours!

After a few rounds, it will be interesting to listen to a couple of Team Titleist members who have decided to switch to the new T200s. Titleist has definitely innovated with this new material and I am looking forward to T200s reviews.

This is the best golf club company in the world, they aren't gonna put out a product that isn't durable. I know the feeling of concern when investing into a new set of clubs, but I think you'll be fine!

Yes the T200 back plate is interesting.
I'm sure there will be those that question the durability and finish.
Titleist will stand by it's design engineering and manufacturing process...if there are issues they will correct.
Please treat your irons with care always...this will insure that if there are any issues you can get better response from the CS Team.

    Cheers,

  12. I can already see Titleist redesigning this in the next version because of all the negative comments surrounding the materials used for the back plate. We all know all polymers are not plastic but for the general public, they dont care. They hear plastic and thats stuck in thier minds. Also, when you tap on the back plate it screams plastic....

i can see Titleist making the T200 more of a 1 pc look moving forward....hate to say it, but more like the new TM 790 which looks like its one forges piece when in reality its not.

If you are worried about damaging the back plate, you can always use iron covers. My 716 AP1's got worn looking fairly fast, but, my 718 AP3's still look shiny. I think until we have the 2021 T200 in hand, there will be questions about the back plate, but, we should find out soon. fwiw, I don't think the back plate will show much wear, the matte finish should help.
  14. My main concern with the backing is when I am washing it. I'm actually concerned that I may be letting water get trapped inside the clubhead

I am pretty sure their engineers took that into consideration. I am not going to pry mine apart to check. My assumption is that the back plate is still adhered to a closed cavity that would not have access to the tungsten weights or anything else that would allow water into the rest of the head. If the back plate has adequate glue, that should act as a seal between the edges to keep water from staying permanently behind the plate and preventing long term corrosion. Only time will tell for sure.
  16. I can confirm that the back plate gets scuffed easily by just carrying them in your golf bag when the clubs knock against each other.

It’s sad to see a set of brand new clubs gets scuffed after only 3 games at a place where there is no impact with the golf ball.

I put a tape on the part of the back plate to try to protect it from turning ugly so fast. Don’t fancy using iron covers. I wonder if one day it might eventually crack as it gets thinner and thinner due to unwanted impact at the same point

I can’t post pics but if anyone wants to have a look I can email over.
  17. I’ve played 3 rounds with my new T-200’s and I’m gutted with them.
Really nice to hit and feel great.
However the polymer back covers are marked up and look terrible, I can only imagine what they will look like after a year.
I am shocked Titleist brought this product out without testing fully.
Currently trying to return them . I don’t think a none hitting part of the club should look so bad after 3 rounds
  18. Titleist did offer to replace my set but I declined because unless something changes the same thing will happen again and they can’t be replacing it all the time.
Seems that they are now looking at the lacquer which I think is the problem. They should use car quality lacquer instead of whatever lacquer they are using now. I think that will solve the problem.

Do you have photos? Granted I only have 1 T200 long iron in the bag it's been holding up very nicely over its first 15 rounds.
  20. I do have photos but it only lets me use social media links on here , which I don’t have pictures on.
I have sent some to Titleist UK.

Happy to send some if you have a way
  21. Funny I just made the same comment

Eight rounds of golf and countless times on the range. The polymer back plates on the T200s have held up well. No nicks and scratches on the back plates. And they do bounce around in the bag while driving a cart around.
  23. Thanks for the reply's everyone. After playing the T200 for a few rounds there was some scratches and visible wear. I decided to return them and get a set of the T100S and I'm loving them so far.
  24. I have had my set of T200s for about a month now and have played 3 rounds of golf. I have noticed wear on the back of my 9 iron. The irons themselve are brilliant, however I can tell in 12 months time the rest of the irons are going to have similar wear. If I knew the back plate was anything but metal at time of purchase, I would have purchased P790s. I am disappointed that a respected company known for producing good quality equipment has released an iron with an obvious design fault.
  25. 2 rounds in, received the T200 irons last Thursday 6th and I can also confirm that the backplate gets scuffed & scratched easily by carrying them in a bag. I carried the T200s in the Sun Mountain H2NO Lite Golf Stand Bag and haven't come across any reports saying these bags are known to cause damage to golf clubs.

Sad to report that I have had a similar experience to some of the TT member's post within this thread.

My experience was that I collected my new clubs, took them to the range opened the box and removed the bubble wrap and following hitting a bucket of balls noticed that there was damaged to the polymer plate.

The damage appears to be to a protective layer/coating on top of the polymer which appears to have chipped or flacked off and now looks unsightly.

Having now been on the course I concur that club clatter marks are very quick to appear.

In addition I used a nylon brush which I have used for years to clean my clubs and can report that care should be taken as a brush may also damage the polymer plate.

In defence of the human element to the potential clause of the damage. I would regard myself as careful with my kit to the extend that the fitter was shocked that my existing forged blades were 10 years old given the absence of damage or clatter marks.

As a solution I have sprayed a club with an industrial lacquer which appears to be returning the polymer plate to a state I had hoped to enjoy for a few years.
  27. What is the industrial lacquer you used? Do you think it will help prevent further scratches? I am trying to find a good solution in the event I notice any damage.
  28. Has anyone tried anything to protect the muscle plate on the T200? I'm trying to think if there are any types of acrylic sprays or anything that would help prevent scratches or damage. And no, I am not getting iron covers.
  29. seems like these irons are a mistake
  30. god don't say that man.. mine are on the way. the performance was a no brainer but this is always going to be in the back of my head im afraid lol
