In the market to replace my golf watch & was looking at the Garmin S62 (buy.garmin.com/.../647267). Anyone own this watch or has looked at and can tell me if they think it is worth it?

  2. I got one for Christmas, but with lockdown here in the UK I haven’t been able to use it for golf yet unfortunately. I might be able to answer any general queries you might have though?

It certainly looks a quality piece of kit, and feels very well made. The battery life is amazing, especially having come from an Garmin Approach X40. I’ve charged it once since Christmas Day (even then only to try it, it didn’t really need it), and it’s on 48% now, even though I’ve worn it every day! I imagine it will drop a lot quicker when using gps though.

As to whether it’s worth it, it kinda depends on how much you value it’s extra features. I really liked the sound of the virtual caddie which gives advice on club choice taking into account your historic average distances, green elevation and wind speed & direction. Some of the others like pin direction may be a bit niche, and may be used sparingly. If you’re only bothered about distances to front middle and back then the S60 or even S40 might be cheaper option, but the screen is bigger on the S62 so is a bit easier to use and view which may be worth taking into account.

Thanks, Greg. Appreciate your comments. Definitely thinking I’m going to buy it in the next in prep for golf season starting up. All the features seem like they will be helpful on the course especially for courses you haven’t played before.

Good choice, think you’ll be happy with it.
  5. Thought I’d provide a bit of an update. I’m getting quite bad burns where the strap touches the skin. More irritating than painful, but have had to take it off for a few days to let it heal. I’m not sure if this strap is made of a different material to the Garmin Approach X40, as I never had an issue with that? This will clearly be an individual thing, wouldn’t expect it to impact many, but thought I’d mention it.
