I place the club behind the ball with the face perpendicular to my target, then move the left foot into position while looking at the target, not the ball, then place my right foot approximately shoulder width from the front foot. My left foot goes approximately one club width in front of the ball. From time to time, I use alignment sticks to ensure that my feet are aligned parallel to the line from he ball to the target. Works for me.

While it's probably not a common method I would recommend on a wide basis, this works for me. I'm 6'7" tall, so with such a long swing for most of my life, little adjustments with grips or stance had a lot of time and space to go wrong.

About 40 years ago, a pro I took lessons from suggested I never adjust my grip, but only use my stance to determine what I wanted my swing path to do. Being sort of an admirer of Nicklaus, his thoughts about adjusting the slightly open stance width with the ball always off the left heel became a method that worked pretty well for me.

Initially, it brought on some teasing because EVERYBODY my age drew the ball. I was the only one among my friends who played a fade. Now, turning 70 next month, my swing is much shorter than it once was, but the whole concept of the slightly open stance still works pretty well.

To draw the ball, all I do is step slightly closer to the ball.
