  1. Played yesterday and shot a little over 100 as usual. Tracked that I hit 0 greens and had 2 putts in almost every green. So how do I improve my shortgame? I have a chipping net but don’t know it just beating balls in the yard is the approach I should take. Any tips are appreciated. Now the course I played had very small greens and a few holes I was on the fringe in regulation but still know my shortgame needs help. Thanks for all the help.

I'd get lessons from a local pro so that you can start hitting more GIR's

Hi, Barkerbob. I'll be honest, this is an awfully large net to cast in hopes of finding a catch-all solution. I would highly recommend taking a notebook (or use your phone) with you and write down what's happening. For example, write down or create a spreadsheet for different distances from the green. Write down what club you used and where the miss was (left/right, short/long, etc.). I would do the exact same thing for putting. I'm betting you'll find a pattern and be able to identify technique issues from that.

Here's an example of how my note-taking helped. Early this spring, I could not stick a wedge close to a pin and I felt I was wasting too many good drives. I spent time taking some notes & reviewing my misses. I found a pattern and then watched a lot of YT videos (be careful, some are full of not good info) to figure out my technique issue. I found out that a lot of us amateurs do not rotate our torso enough when using wedges due to the lesser distance required. Once I figured out my miss pattern, and what I was doing incorrectly, I have since been MUCH better with my wedges and my scores have reduced drastically.

Hope this helps and good luck!

Spend an hour every other day at a practice green.
Chipping and Putting Games with your kids or friends.

Put time in to improve...it's that simple.

Best recommendation would be to go see a PGA professional. They can see your swing and analyze your issues. Hard to resolve a problem you cannot see. With respect, go see a teaching pro. Cheers, Chuck.....

I have a driving net as well, but only use it for working on driver in the yard on swing mechanics. Still not sufficient for ball flight feedback.

Sounds like you need help with 20-50 yard chipping. I take a bucket of balls and a beach towel to my local field (baseball, soccer, park, etc.). Fold the towel in half and lay it flat. Now walk back to 20 yards and try to land your ball in that towel. Repeat at various distances.

Around the green, you need to translate this practice into use. You might chip it 20 yards into the towel, but if that was a green, you might expect another 5-20 yard roll out, depending on the loft of the club.

    Good luck!

If you had 0 GIR, I'd work on ball contact and the golf swing in general, before working on the short game.

I personally would tell you first TAKE A BREAK!!
A week no golf. Ok now here we go.!!!!!!
First pick two aspects of your game and dedicate 75% of your practice time to those two for one month, and in a month pick two others.
Now here is the kicker, one of the two things must always be PUTTING and the other must be CHIPPING INSIDE 32 YARDS.....madgolfer, hitemstraight
