A Sunday to Remember: My First Hole-in-One
For over 11 years, our Sunday Fellowship Golf League has been more than just a group of 12 dedicated golfers—it’s been a brotherhood rooted in competition, camaraderie, and shared love for the game. With two flights—A and B—we travel each Sunday from April through October, playing courses throughout the Raleigh-Durham area, always pushing each other to improve, all while chasing the elusive perfect round. We only take breaks for major holidays, but the game is always calling.
Over the years, I've been fortunate to win the A Flight Championship seven times, a blessing I don’t take for granted. But nothing could have prepared me for what happened on Sunday, May 4, 2025.
We were playing at Zebulon Country Club in Zebulon, North Carolina. Hole 9—a short par 3—was playing just 89 yards from the white tees. On paper, a routine wedge shot. But golf rarely follows a script.
I pulled my 60-degree png wedge, dialed in my stance, and took the swing. The ball lifted with a clean trajectory, tracking the pin the entire way. It landed softly—about two feet short of the hole—and then, as if guided, rolled straight in.
A hole-in-one. My first.
After 17 years of playing this beautiful, humbling game, I finally experienced one of its greatest thrills. Witnessed by my Sunday league brothers, the shot wasn’t just a personal milestone—it became part of our league’s rich and growing history.
Some moments in golf fade, but this one—this shot, on this day, with these people—will last a lifetime.
